What’s Registration and License Tax?(登録免許税)
Registration and License Tax is imposed when applying for the registration of property ownership.

Ownership Preservation Registration(所有権保存登記)
Ownership Preservation Registration is a necessary procedure when purchasing a new property.
The standard tax rate is “assessed value × 0.4%.”
A reduced rate rate “assessed value × 0.15%” applies until March 31, 2027.
(To qualify for the reduced rate, the property must meet certain criteria.)
Ownership Transfer Registration(所有権移転登記)
Ownership Transfer Registration is required when purchasing a used property.
The standard tax rate is “assessed value × 2.0%.”
A reduced rate rate “assessed value × 0.3%” applies until March 31, 2027.
(To qualify for the reduced rate, the property must meet certain criteria.)
